The product is very nice, is quality-built, and is a good value for it's price. We ordered this because we know of two other people who own this exact model, and my husband had borrowed it and liked it very much.

"Best single stage on the market - TRUST ME - I researched everything!" 2010-02-06
By A. Luna (Quakertown, PA)
My parents bought us this snow blower a few months ago. They paid for it and told me to pick one out. I chose the Troy-Bilt Squall 21" Single Stage Snow Thrower after a thorough review of Lowe's, Home Improvement and Sears brands. I also watched the video testimonial of the previous reviewr who put up the video (thanks!). I live in PA and he lives in Michigan - I figured if it can handle Michigan winters, PA should be a piece of cake! We had our first snowstorm today (about 10-12 inches of snow). The squall started on first pull and was not nearly as loud as I expected. It cut through the 10"-12" really well. Now I did have to give it a little extra energy to push through the taller snow, but it blew it really well. Cleared my two sloped pavement driveway and longgggg side walk in less than 20 minutes without breaking a sweat! No aching muscles either. Because of the way the wind was blowing, some snow blew back in my face - but I imagine this would be the case with any snow blower when you are blowing it against the wind. Other than that, I think it is AWESOME! I actually look forward to clearing the snow on snow days now! I have not used the electric start, but I am sure it would be great. For the price and having compared the Tro-Bilt Squall to a LOT of other models (I think I studied consumer reports and Amazon reviews for like two days before purchasing the Troy Built Squall), I am confident that this is the very best single stage snow blower on the market today!

Pros and Cons:

First the pro's:

I like it - the electric starter is 120 volt, so no battery to buy every year.

It starts with one or two easy pulls away from the garage, too.

Easy on gas. Long run on a tankfull, and easy to push in light snow.

Now the con's:

It isn't for heavy snow and slush if you are a weakling, takes a LOT to push in thick stuff and over uneven terrain - I don't mean like 30 pound shove, either - I mean like I hope you are in good shape, my friend. If you don't work out, this machine might not work out for you !

You often get forced to reduce down and bite 6" wide in heavy snow, too.

It has a habit of shooting some snow ahead onto the cleared part of the driveway instead of up the chute.

It's nearly useless over its depth particularly in thick stuff.

"Good Buy! Extra power comes in handy." 2008-12-19

Watch Video Here: http://www.amazon.com/review/RDQGEPR7V9IUD While I have only owned this blower for a few weeks I have put it to the test with a few recent Michigan storms. I looked at other single stage units with 123CC and 170CC engines. I'm glad I went with the Troy Bilt with the 203CC engine. I can tell the difference as it just doesn't bog down like those with the smaller engines.
